Real Wedding Advice from a DC Bride

Following is what we hope is the first of many "real" brides (and grooms!) who want to share their planning and wedding day tips and advice with other about-to-be couples.

Krysia Novotny had a mid-May wedding in Brandywine, Delaware. Her advice follows:

Living in the DC area and planning a wedding two hours away in Delaware was a challenge. If I could give new brides any advice it would be to surround yourself with people you trust. You will drive yourself absolutely crazy if you fail to put your faith in others.

For me, working with great vendors was my saving grace. The trust we placed in our catering director opened the doors to referrals for almost all our other vendors. Referrals translate into familiarity with a venue, which will inevitably leave less to chance on the big day.

Most brides will be working within a budget…unfortunately! My advice for brides is to figure out what is most important to you and go all out in that area, whether it’s the flowers, cake, reception site, or photographer.

The reception site and photographer were most important to us. The venue would set the tone for the day and the pictures would be our lasting memory. Your wedding day will fly by and all those time consuming details will be a blur. The only way to truly capture your day is through your photographer. Creating a shared vision and trust with your photographer is crucial to capturing your day in the way you want it remembered.

Our photographer search led us to a quaint corner in Lancaster, PA to a studio called Lime Street. This was the first photographer of ten that we would visit that weekend. After we left Lime Street my husband wanted to cancel the remaining nine meetings because we simply knew this was it. Barbara put us at ease, let my husband know the wedding was “entirely about the bride,” and her pictures simply spoke for themselves. Lime Street’s chic combination of traditional still shots and photojournalism captured our wedding vision entirely.

There is an old saying that a picture is worth a 1000 words. Barbara, Aimee, & Lime Street were able to help us write our wedding novel with breathtaking photos that will truly last a life time.
